Pro-Ject launches a brand new Pro turntable | Sim Planet

2021-12-08 06:42:00 By : Ms. Anna Zhao

The new heavy-duty nickel-plated machined aluminum bearing housing increases the mass at the pivot and ensures free movement for precise tracking. Pro-Ject says that the disc is an aluminum mold with integrated TPE damping, which achieves a perfect combination of quality and low internal resonance.

The new products of the Debut series can be adjusted in both arm height and azimuth angle, so that a wider range of high-quality ink cartridges can be set perfectly, including the excellent Sumiko Rainer, which is part of the package and precisely aligned with the factory by experts.

Other features include height-adjustable feet with integrated resonance damping, electronic speed selection, removable acrylic dust cover, and high-quality semi-symmetrical fiber optic cable (Connect It E).

Like all Pro-Ject Audio Systems turntables, the special edition Debut PRO is handmade in Europe and will be sold in limited quantities at some Pro-Ject dealers in the United States starting in August 2021, with a suggested retail price of US$899.

Pro-Ject’s website has its own category tags applied to this model: "Aspiring enthusiasts, casual crate excavators, debut carousels, luxury listeners, carousels." The term "entry-level" in various contexts is usually Refers to the lowest level. For turntables, I think this means that the minimum acceptable level of performance is considered high fidelity. Of course, you would expect the price to be commensurate with performance and functionality. In terms of performance, I would put it into the entry-level category, although it has some interesting features that can increase its price. Nevertheless, I would not buy a three-legged turntable, and I don't think I like its drive system (see the image of the removed platter, where the belt drives a separate plastic "daughter platter"). It has some of the characteristics of Debut Pro-aluminum/carbon fiber tonearm, TPE damping components, etc. I have always thought that the only weak link is the slightly illusory tonearm bearing assembly, so I am happy to see that they solve an important part of this problem. Maybe Sumiko will provide new parts for the old deck in the future. Otherwise, the build quality is impressive (Czech Republic?) and my experience with Sumiko USA customer service is excellent. ESD took out the main circuit board on my Classic, and they were willing to send me the parts directly (and soon!) so that I could replace it myself. The price of Pro seems a bit high, but maybe production costs are rising. Nevertheless, I still hope to get a more isolated motor design at this price, but their tonearm and Speed Box system are beyond the level of most entry-level turntables. Thanks for the information. That is a nice table. Simple and elegant.

For novice enthusiasts, this is a good analog entry-level choice. For many people, this is what they need.

"...The plate is aluminum mold...".

"...A high-quality semi-symmetrical fiber optic cable...".

Basically $1,000 is considered a bit steep for entry. Level table, I still think EVO will be an entry-level model, if not a lower model.
